07 January 2010
Looking to the future, lawlab is hoping to encourage and inspire leaders in the legal profession to contribute to one of the most important issues facing Australia, the water reform agenda.
Lawlab’s CEO, Ian Perkins, will present the winner of its first lawlab Water Law Award at the Water Leaders Congress 2010 in Sydney on 25 February 2010.
The prize
Lawlab is offering $5,000 plus registration for the award-winning author to present a paper on an emerging issue in water trade law at the Water Leaders Congress 2010. Papers are invited from graduates and practitioners in the legal sector.>
“This is a fantastic networking opportunity for someone looking to build their profile”, said lawlab CEO, Ian Perkins. “I’m hoping that this award will encourage law graduates and legal practitioners to consider specialising in water reform. This area presents an enormous challenge for Australia, and we need our best minds working towards solutions.”
The winner will be selected by a panel comprising Ian Perkins, lawlab director Richard Bootle, and Emeritus Professor Sandford Clark. As part of the prize, the winning author will be flown to Sydney to present their paper at a forum including key stakeholders in the water industry.
“The Australian community will benefit from the development of mature water markets that facilitate trade across the jurisdictions. We’re looking to encourage innovative legal thinking that builds on the National Water Initiative,” said Mr Perkins.
